Arario Gallery is a prominent building in Arario Small City,
located at 354-1, Shinbu-dong, Cheonan City, Chungnam, a landmark
of Cheonan in the center of the city.
The facade of the gallery building is made of cortan steel,
giving it a timeless quality. The decision to us such a material
was to differenciate from the other modern buildings in Arario
Small City and to keep consistent with the developing contemporary
idea.
Starting this project, we have taken into account many aspects
of the functions of a landmark. Located at the main street with
busy traffic, billboard filled buildings and older traditional
settings, we could not disregard these influences of the environment.
In a dilemma between a plain but acceptable design and an experimentally
creative one, we decided to give life to the symbolical aspect
as a gallery and its identity with a unique and modern design.
In the five story uilding, the gallery coexists with other Ineighborhood
facilities and they coexist with an art institution. The buliding
consists of three restaurants, a cafe and bakery designed to
meet the standards of the gallery. Simplistic stairway lead
people from the ground floor to the gallery on the third floor. |
